Denmark Hill Conservation Reserve

PlayWorks For landscape architects

Working closely with the council and contractors, our play experts were tasked with custom designing a high timber nature playground that maximised space and created multi-level play.

Brief

Just minutes away from the city’s main streets, Denmark Hill Conservation Reserve is a rare urban environmental gem. As well as being a site of cultural importance to Traditional Owners, it has a prolific history connected to Ipswich’s mining boom. The project brief was to create a nature playground to help reactivate this hidden, somewhat forgotten bushland.

Range

Hand carved from native Australian ironbark, the play elements featured in the log obstacle course include balance logs, steppers, climbing nets and a basket swing. Tall log play elements complement TLCC’s use of cultural landscape poles, which represent ancient smoke signals used by the Traditional Owners.

Product

This playground features our nature play brand, Natura. All Natura play elements are made to order. They are hand-finished original pieces, with no mass production. We use sustainably-sourced natural logs, typically ironbark, which are de-barked, sanded, radiused and oiled, then finished with bitumen-sealed footings. Explore the range here.
